What is Courtland Ghost Town?
Courtland was a copper mining boom town, founded in 1909. At its peak, the population was 2,000 residents. Before the white man arrived, it was home to several indigenous First Native tribes. We are in various phases of geological, archaeological and historical research. The proceeds from our tours and turquoise sales help to fund this endeavor.
What is Courtland Turquoise?
Turquoise has been mined in this area since the First Natives arrived. In later years, Tiffany mined the turquoise that was sent "back east" to be sold in their stores.
Most turquoise sold today has been "stabilized" by injecting resin into the stones, adding to the weight of the stone. This turquoise has also been mined using explosives and other ground damaging techniques.
At Courtland Ghost Town, we mine all of our turquoise by hand, from an existing mine, and take great care to not damage the environment. The piece of jewelry, or loose stone you purchase from us is 100% turquoise.
